In 1905, after a construction period of 4 years, the path was officially opened.

After a railway line was built in the valley, the path was little used and it has been neglected over time. This, however, did not stop fanatical hikers from taming the path, creating very unsafe situations and even killing people.

Because of the continuing great interest in this spectacular walking path and to prevent accidents, the Spanish government completely renovated the path in 2015.
